Before Jennifer Lawrence won the Academy Award for “Silver Linings Playbook,” Kentucky’s only other Best Actress was Patricia Neal for “Hud” in 1964, and George Clooney earned a 2006 Best Supporting Actor award for “Syriana.” Neal was born in Whitley County, Kentucky but raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. Clooney was born in Lexington and raised in Northern Kentucky and in Cincinnati suburbs on the Ohio side of the river.
Jennifer Lawrence was also nominated for Best Actress in 2011 for “Winter’s Bone.”
Nice to have a Kentucky woman rise to prominence who doesn’t sound like a Honey Boo Boo character or a crazy reality show wingnut.
Of course, photographers had to follow her to Hawaii to snoop on her vacation following the Academy Awards. Jennifer returned to the islands to finish shooting on the second Hunger Games film.
