Steely Dan Johnson: I won’t quit – Metro Council: Yes you will
Beleaguered Louisville Metro Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21) has been asked to resign by his Democrat colleagues. He has until August 1st to resign or they say they will procedurally eject him from office. Johnson was on my WHAS radio show yesterday where he maintained his innocence in multiple sexual harassment allegations made by female government workers. Johnson said that he doesn't understand why this story is still reverberating one month after a councilwoman lodged a complaint against him. When I asked Johnson if he will resign his office, he replied "No...I was elected by the 21st district to serve them for four years and I will do that until my time is up." American hero Joey Jaws Chestnut seeks 10th Nathan’s Mustard Belt at 4th of July gorging fest
America is the fattest country in the world so a guy like Joey "Jaws" Chestnut is iconic. Chestnut has won the Nathan's World Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest a record 9 times. Chestnut's record is 73 hot dogs and buns consumed in 10 minutes. In our radio chat today, we discussed his Nathan's competition prep, the aftermath, celebrity pampering, other food contests, and the unrelenting sting from overeating ice cream. Louisville is hosting a Nathan's qualifying round this Saturday at Thunder Over Louisville. The top male and female finisher earn the right to compete against Joey Jaws and all the other stars of competitive eating in Brooklyn. DETAILS HERE
McConnell confirms his intention to use the nuclear option to confirm SCOTUS nominee Neil Grouch
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirms that he is prepared to use the so-called nuclear option, changing traditional rules of the Senate to allow for a simple majority vote to confirm U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch. In a WHAS radio interview with me, McConnell noted that the longstanding tradition of requiring a supermajority of 60 aye votes was overrun in 2013 by then-majority leader Sen. Harry Reid. Democrats point out that Reid's use of the nuclear option was to advance lower court appointments, not Supreme Court nominees. Here is the entire WHAS interview, which also covers whether superpowers should intervene following Syrian chemical attacks, if GOP in-fighting will wither 2018 election hopes, health care upgrades, tax reform, and
Coach Cal and Rick Pitino: crying on the yachts
With perpetual local interest in basketball, media outlets have found an off season storyline. The head basketball coaches at UK and U of L are in a war of words. Last week, Kentucky's John Calipari launched a not-very-subtle slam at Louisville's Rick Pitino, saying that coaches know about scandalous behavior when it happens on campus. Louisville is stewing in a sex scandal related to prostitutes brought into its basketball dorm. The NCAA is expected to make its final ruling soon. Calipari's notorious vacated Final Fours at UMass and Memphis were rooted in off-campus misdeeds by players. After Calipari's radio rant last week with Mike Lupica, Pitino returned fire this week on my radio show. AUDIO: Pitino also commented on Governor Matt Bevin's dismissal
Damon Wayans on Cosby, audience sensitivity, legacy
"O, Utopia. Why must your sweet governance always turn so quickly from the Edenic to the Stalinist?" From the Power 105 Breakfast Club radio show - In a freewheeling conversation, Damon Wayans reflects on his famous family, classic comedy sketches that would face PC opposition today, SNL discomfort, In Living Color, Kevin Hart, harnessing talent, and more. A little news popped when Wayans said Bill Cosby is being taken down by a "money hustle" and that some of his accusers are "unrapeable." Wayans took heat for using the word unrapeable and referring to some of them as bitches. He refused to budge. No way any of this comedy would fly on today's thought-policed college campuses. Drake rhymes with fake
Soft rapper Drake dropped by HOT 97 Radio in New York to "freestyle" from prepackaged lyrics loaded on his smartphone. Deejay Funkmaster Flex wouldn't put up with it for long. Yo, Drake be like uh...uh...uh...uh...lemme just grunt and see if that dope. Nope. Freestyle is supposed to be on-the-spot riffing and weaving of thoughts. Drake's lack of skills doesn't keep your immature daughter or Coach Cal from crushing on him. Is all about show biz, baby. Uh...uh...uh...uh...yeaaaaaahhhh...knowd um sayin?
