Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin texted: "Are you on air today?" Me: "Yes sir." Gov. Bevin: "Want me to stop by?" Me: "Absolutely" A few minutes later, Governor Bevin strolled into my studio and we launched right into a 23 minute chat on a myriad of topics. Local media immediately jumped on Bevin's sardonic comment about America's "soft" culture where school is called off for cold temperatures. .@GovMattBevin told @terrymeiners that #Kentucky schools closing for cold weather shows 'we're getting soft’ but a chorus of teachers and political rivals from both sides of the aisle quickly rebuked those comments: https://t.co/OiglXzwNcx #KYGov— Philmonger (@phillipmbailey) January 30, 2019 This WDRB transcript (below) put Bevin's comment in better context but the audio reveals that Bevin is

My radio chats with the major gubernatorial candidates for 2019
Here are my most recent WHAS Radio interviews with the 2019 candidates for Kentucky governor. This November, incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin will take on the winner of the May primary between Democrat hopefuls Attorney General Andy Beshear, Senate Minority Leader Rocky Adkins, and former Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen. All candidates are offered the choice of appearing in the radio studio with me or to join me via phone. We start with Governor Bevin on the phone last month. Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear Political activist and former Kentucky auditor Adam Edelen Kentucky Senate Minority Leader Rocky Adkins All of them are scheduled for return visits on my WHAS Radio afternoon show. For an additional Republican perspective on the 2019 general assembly, here's my conversation
Adam Edelen would like to be Kentucky’s next governor. Here’s what he would say to the current governor on a long car ride.
via WHAS RADIO 📻 My chat with Kentucky governor hopeful Adam Edelen on how he differs from other Ky Democrats, what he'd say to Gov Matt Bevin on a long car ride, his pension fix, and how two white guys #EdelenHolland2019 can still bring diversity to Kentucky. We also discussed Kentucky jobs in coal, renewable energy, and Edelen's support from prominent Louisvillians. 🎙️ #Election2019 #KYpolitics
“You bet I’m running” – Gov. Matt Bevin tees up his re-election battle with Andy Beshear, et al
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin finally burst the bubble by declaring that he will indeed run for reelection. I've asked him more than 10 times in radio interviews if he would re-up to solidify Republican party plans for 2019. His response was that he would not let "the people across the aisle" dictate his schedule. At last night's Lincoln Dinner in Lexington, the news spilled across all of the aisles. Governor Bevin wants to stay in office for a second term. "Buckle up, because the next five years are going to be something to watch." At the @KYGOP Lincoln Dinner in Lexington, @GovMattBevin announced his intention to run for re-election in 2019. pic.twitter.com/zqnjGGEufk— Garrett Wymer (@GarrettWKYT) August 26, 2018 There's

Expect a wild ride in the Rick Pitino book coming next month
Former University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino has promised to go after the three people he says got him fired. In his forthcoming book, Pitino has promised to tell "the real story" of his removal and the dismissal of athletics director Tom Jurich. Pitino blames the school's "board of traitors" (trustees), especially chairman David Grissom, trustee "Papa John" Schnatter, and interim school president Dr. Greg Postel. The former coach also says his book "will not be kind" to Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin. Pitino and I will discuss his book on WHAS radio in a few weeks. Who wants to drink poison now?
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin used some twisted logic to describe his concern for the state's schoolchildren last week. Surely you've seen the video that made national news. Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin on the teacher rallies today. “I guarantee you somewhere in Kentucky today a child was sexually assaulted that was left at home because there was nobody there to watch them.” pic.twitter.com/Q4PpzFsTt2— Marcus Green (@MarcusGreenWDRB) April 13, 2018 Bevin was undoubtedly upset that overrides of his vetoes of multiple bills had produced new legislation that he did not like. But to swerve from teacher protests leaving school kids vulnerable to sexual assault, drug use, and inadvertent poisoning sounded cray-cray. 48 hours after the governor's rant roiled Kentucky and made
Gov. Matt Bevin on KEA: “They’re frauds…they just want mayhem”
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin jumped on the radio with me last night for his monthly interview. It became explosive pretty fast. With a midnight deadline looming, Bevin announced that he had just signed the pension reform bill to stop its financial freefall. Kentucky teachers have been protesting the bill for changes affecting new hires. Bevin said that the Kentucky Education Association (KEA) leadership had been against it but in recent days had been touting it. Bevin taunted the KEA as "frauds" who don't have a real sense of what's best for teachers. (transcripts via Courier Journal) Bevin claims the KEA "just wants mayhem" Replies from the KEA, the Democrat Party, attorney general Andy Beshear, and teachers have been harsh. The AG
Gov. Matt Bevin on weak UofL donations, time with Trump, trade tariffs, more
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and I had another wide-ranging interview today on his conversations with President Donald Trump, local impact from Trump trade tariffs, withering donations to UofL, secrecy in the UofL presidential search, the reshaping of his budget, Medicaid waiver countersuit, striking teachers, and more. ? @GovMattBevin on talks with @realDonaldTrump, proposed trade tariffs, secrecy of UofL presidential search, withering donations to UofL, proposed state budget, striking teachers, #Medicaid waiver countersuit, more ?️ https://t.co/IkVVKiRqvo #USpolitics #tradewar #Kentucky pic.twitter.com/tRs6dZqUIl— Terry Meiners (@terrymeiners) March 7, 2018
Rep. John Yarmuth on DACA, whether Sen Schumer caved, and replying to Gov. Bevin’s claim that he’s “whining” about the Medicaid waiver
U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth popped onto the radio today to explain why the Democrats caved in on the government shutdown stalemate. We talked about Sen. Chuck Schumer's strategy, the DACA negotiations, funding the U.S. military vs funding The Dreamers, and Yarmuth replied to Gov. Matt Bevin's contention that he is "whining" about the new Medicaid waiver allowing the government to demand that able-bodied recipients either work, get job training, or provide community service. The photo above is a rare capture of Yarmuth and Bevin appearing side-by-side. We'll not have any of that bipartisanship, gentlemen. Back to your corners.
