📻 Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers and I talked on 840WHAS Radio about the 2019 general assembly's potential. 🎙 Click the link to listen. We discussed what laws he expects will pass in the 2019 general assembly, his view of a potential pension fix, a lesson in scant proceeds from sports betting, medicinal marijuana challenges, and why the WAR ON LOUISVILLE is fake news. 📸 Kentucky Today

Gov Matt Bevin on marijuana, sports betting, happy dancing Dems, and why he’s still the best person to be governor in Ky
đź“» Here's Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin on the phone with me. It's our annual year-end summation interview wrapped up with a Christmas message for all. His staff promised me 20 minutes on the phone but the governor got rolling and we went a full half hour. Of course, Matt Bevin was extremely frustrated after this week's aimless special session, plus he sustained a recent unanimous rejection by the Kentucky Supreme Court on the pension issue. What do we learn? He's definitely running for reelection, encourages others to challenge him, takes a hard pass at marijuana & sports betting, and paints attorney general Andy Beshear with dereliction of duty. I also asked who will be the next Lt. Gov, if the
Life is good: Gov. Bevin uses his interview with me to illustrate his pro life message
A federal judge will soon rule on a lawsuit challenging a Kentucky abortion law. The state legislature passed HB 454 with bipartisan support. It bans D&E (dilation and evacuation) abortion procedures in the second trimester of a pregnancy. The ACLU claims the administration of Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is trying to end second trimester abortions. The governor's team says that less cruel methodologies are available although some medical professionals say they are more dangerous for the mother. Gov. Bevin (or his social media team) took a recent radio interview with me to reissue the government's stance on the lawsuit just as the trial ended. Yesterday, we wrapped up a weeklong trial defending HB 454 against out-of-state lawyers from the @ACLU. That anyone

Former federal agent Greg Gitschier on “situational awareness” and self-protection during an active shooter event
Another day in America and another senseless school shooting, this time in Benton, Kentucky. A 15-year-old student shot at least 14 fellow students, killing two of them, before surrendering to law enforcement. A witness said the shooter ran out of ammunition then attempted to run away but was apprehended without further incident. Here is former Secret Service agent Greg Gitschier, a security expert, on situational awareness and how to self-protect during an active shooter event. Gitschier details the strategy sequence of 1) run, 2) hide, or 3) fight. Listen to the audio linked above. As for Kentucky's gun tragedy, more details coming soon.
Marshall County school shooting: another triggering trigger
Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS...Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded...Much yet unknown...Please do not speculate or spread hearsay...Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us...— Governor Matt Bevin (@GovMattBevin) January 23, 2018 Before any media was aware, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin tweeted about a Benton, Ky. school shooting on January 23rd. The national media took his lead and quickly spread limited details of a tragedy that left at least one Marshall County High School student dead and at least six others injured. Bevin asked for measured reaction, only triggering anti-gun voices to shout even louder via posts and imagery. A statement from Gov. Bevin
Gov. Matt Bevin pops in for a year-end chat – predicts “a doozy” of a legislative session – more rancor with media
Of the hundreds of political people I've interviewed over 40 years in broadcasting, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin understands the value of radio more than any other. He knows that long form conversations give him instant, unedited contact with constituents as opposed to edited clips packaged through the prism of any given reporter. Bevin and I have a scheduled monthly chat - he calls them Talk Radio Tuesdays and appears on 4 or 5 shows in different areas of the state - and I am usually last on the clock. Because WHAS is in his home city, I often get in-studio interviews, a rarity for governors. We had a scheduled interview on December 12th. The text shows that he decided to make

Gov. Matt Bevin on UofL without Jurich, gambling, drinking, and being alone with a woman
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin joined me on 840WHAS for a wide-ranging interview on: expanded gambling to bolster pensions, sexual harassment among Kentucky legislators, being alone with a woman, was his UofL board of trustees correct in firing Tom Jurich, a potential LouCity FC stadium, Kentucky outpacing Indiana, tax perks, imbibing, and would he consider being a running mate to Mike Pence in 2020.
AUDIO – Gov. Matt Bevin on UofL chaos, Tom Jurich’s future, and who controls the board of trustees
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin popped by the WHAS Radio studios today. I was expecting him on the phone but he said he was speaking nearby and decided to make it a studio visit. He stayed for three segments (a total of 45 minutes) as I ran through a litany of topics: the chaos at U of L, whether he controls decisions of its board of trustees, the future for suspended athletics director Tom Jurich, since Jurich raised $300 million and was paid $19m - how is that not a great ROI, snaring Amazon HQ2, coal vs EPA, casino gambling or marijuana to rescue pension collapse, Lil Andy Beshear, and a Twitter question from my son Simon. I appreciate the governor hanging
