Many thanks to dozens of police officers and other law enforcement personnel who have given me advice and support following an unnecessary encounter with one particular police officer. Apparently, even fellow officers routinely felt the sting of Sam Cromity's relentless pursuit of drivers he deemed lawbreakers. Cromity once chased another unmarked LMPD car down I-65, ignoring the pursued officer's police lights signaling that they're on the same team. Upon reaching the police parking lot, the pursued homicide detective screamed obscenities at the unmoved Cromity, who still wanted to write a ticket. The matter was handled internally with Cromity losing the argument. The ailing mother of an LMPD sergeant was detained by Cromity even though she was driving herself to Audubon

Dadgummit, U of Smell drives him loony
Many people ask about "The Beasman" sketch on my radio show. Yes, it is loosely based on former University of Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall, who is a true gentleman in real life. Joe and I have laughed about the sketch over the years and he knows that the character is a complete exaggeration of an overzealous fan. That's the crux of the long running sketch -- a reflection of the constant sniping between University of Kentucky fans with a condescending attitude toward their "little brothers" at the University of Louisville. Here's the script for Friday, October 25, 2013 THE BEASMAN obsession 10-25-13 DADGUM YOU AND ALL YOUR SNAGGLE TOOTH U OF SMELL CARDINAL LYIN HYPOCRITE LEADERS,

Cher + Gregg Allman = Jump the Shark
Enjoying seeing Cher on NBC's The Voice? This classic two-fer from Cher's 1975 television show illustrates the weirdness brewing in her relationship with Gregg Allman. They later married and had a son but lived through constant tumult. According to Gregg's 2012 book "My Cross To Bear," they eventually split over his drug problems. Be sure to watch the second performance on this reel to see Cher's odd interpretative dance to the Allman Brothers classic "Midnight Rider," released again in the 70s as a Gregg Allman single.
Just before the first Saturday Night
In October 1975, Tom Snyder was hosting a late night talk show called "Tomorrow" on NBC following Johnny Carson's legendary "Tonight Show." On this episode, Snyder introduced America to the Not Ready For Prime Time Players, who were just a few days away from launching the show that would become known as "Saturday Night Live." source: Eric Alper
