Chick magnet
After reading about a man calling 911 to report a chicken crossing the road, I was reminded of a crazy encounter I had a few years ago driving down I-64. SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE by Terry Meiners On the car radio, Pastor Dave Stone had just wrapped up his radio sermon extolling the virtues of providing service. Instead of focusing on inhaling, he encouraged his flock to highlight the act of exhaling by spreading service and support in society. I had no idea that I was about to become part of a five person team that would save seven precious lives. Bathed in bright morning sunshine, I drove eastbound on I-64, imagining a glorious day of golf with three visiting buddies. As my car made the
Peyton & Adolph: your off-season basketball fix
University of Louisville national champion and current Detroit Piston Peyton Siva returned to his adopted hometown to direct a summer basketball camp for kids. He appeared on WHAS-TV's "Great Day Live" and on WHAS Radio and other Clear Channel stations. And to complete this basketball two-fer: WHAS broadcast legend Cawood Ledford (1926-2001), known for decades as The Voice of the Kentucky Wildcats, compiled this terrific profile of basketball coaching legend Adolph Rupp.

A toast to Tim Wilson, a gentle Southern soul
Tim Wilson passed away on February 26, 2014 of a massive heart attack. He delighted audiences throughout the midwest and southern states with songs and stories about his crazy life. He was 52 and is survived by his treasured wife Deidre "Sweetie" Wilson and two children from a previous marriage. He sold more than 500,000 comedy CDs and DVDs, stuffed full of historical parodies, songs about hard times, and Southern culture. Noting that his wife Deidre is African American and refined him to the ways of the modern world, Tim Wilson claimed to be the only
The Bingham family media sales of 1986
This 1986 video shows WHAS-11 News reporting on the sale of the final media properties held by the Bingham family of Louisville. The Binghams dominated Louisville's media landscape by controlling the major daily newspaper, plus the most popular radio and television stations. WHAS-AM and WAMZ-FM were sold for slightly more than $20 million to Clear Channel Communications of San Antonio, the fifth and sixth stations to join its burgeoning portfolio. Clear Channel went on to build a chain of 1,200 stations across America before selling to Bain Capital. At the time of this report, the Binghams had already sold The Courier-Journal newspaper to Gannett; WHAS-11 to the Providence Journal Corp., and Standard Gravure (rotogravure printing) to an Atlanta investor.
