While broadcasting at Louisville's #FandomFest, I stumbled into the actor Billy Krank who plays the son of Ernest P. Worrell (a goofy 80s TV pitchman created by the late Jim Varney). Only after posting the photo online did readers notice the nearly naked figure in the background. The guy at FandomFest said he was Princess Leia. I apologize for ruining your childhood memories.

The real Captain Kirk
We had an excellent Q&A session with ESPN College Game Day star Kirk Herbstreit at the downtown Marriott. Kirk was funny, candid, and talked of his love for the growth of the game at Louisville and Kentucky. The luncheon was a benefit for The Parklands of Floyd's Fork. (photo by John Nation)

iHeartMedia doesn’t heart sarcasm
As my 30th anniversary with WHAS radio approached, I recently renewed my contract for another six years. On July 1, 2021, I will likely end my 45 year commercial broadcast career. My shows contain serious news interviews, community service, and a fair dose of jocularity involving celebrities, athletes, and newsmakers. Cracking wise is the overriding theme. Our iHeartMedia Louisville management team must send all press release materials through the corporate prism in New York for approval. I was asked to give a statement upon the contract renewal and submitted this: "I declined a generous offer from the international brotherhood of brain surgeons so that I can remain with my iHeartMedia family for six more years. I love my on-air radio team and
Accentuate the accent
HBO's "Last Week Tonight" zinged me for my bad Irish accent. Dude, I am only 1% Irish. How about an A for effort, laddie?

Go West, young man – It’s WHAS-TV reunion time
Amid the WHAS-TV reunion memories, former news anchor Jean West told a great story from our early days at the station. In 1986, I took an opportunity to shock a Klansman who was to be interviewed about his request to the city for a White Power rally. As Klansman Kenny King (KKK!) sat quietly awaiting reporter John McGrath and a camera operator, I strolled into the lobby holding Jean's hand and leaned down to plant a passionate kiss on her right in front of the stunned racist. McGrath, who enjoyed interviewing societal outcasts, later said Kenny the Klansman needed 10 minutes to compose himself before he could do the interview. The reunion of former WHAS-TV employees is to celebrate the station's
Rick Pitino on UK, Coach Cal, Cat fans in Yum, comparison to ’96, and whether to continue the rivalry
University of Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino didn't have much to say following his team's latest loss to arch-rival Kentucky, the seventh loss out of eight games since John Calipari arrived in Lexington. He needed a day to decompress and then we chatted about the game on 840WHAS Radio on Monday, December 29. Pitino didn't shy away from talking about Coach Cal, UK's potential, abundant UK fans in the KFC Yum Center, and much more. AUDIO from WHAS Radio TRANSCRIPT Pitino enjoys life away from basketball during the few weeks a year that he's not working but he has no plans to walk away from the game he cherishes. He loves his Louisville Cardinals and still honors his Kentucky coaching years with
Jennifer Lawrence & The Lawrence family: a solid bond
Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, a Louisville native who is Hollywood's top box office draw, was home for the Christmas holidays. She visited Kosair Children's Hospital, lent a hand at Wayside Christian Mission, and cheered for her UofL Cardinals at the KFC Yum Center. Oddly enough, I wound up delivering several outfits to the movie star at the arena when she arrived with her family. The Lawrence family is adored locally for operating Camp Hi Ho, a summer day camp for kids. Jennifer's mom and dad got a big kick out of watching me pretend to be fashion judge as the star decided on which Louisville garb to wear to the arena. MORE PHOTOS HERE EN ESPANOL
