SURVEY: AMERICANS DON'T TRUST MEDIA BUT FEEL BETTER ABOUT FAVORITES The chasm widened between media and those in power + their supporters. Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin responded to derision from certain media outlets that are routinely ignored by the executive branch. Louisville's Courier-Journal and Lexington's Herald Leader are both named in Bevin's new Facebook video (below). Bevin says "a handful" of (what he considers) negative media people "are like cicadas...not serious journalists." He claims their out-of-state owners engage in tabloid journalism so he wants to communicate directly with constituents via social media, radio shows, and smaller newspapers. Bevin expects newspapers to tout "extraordinary business developments...but you wouldn't know it" by reading their news stories. The Herald Leader slammed my interview work

Bill Stokes, my brother from another mother
William Albert "Bill" Stokes died last week. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Seven years ago, he taught me one of the most enlightening, compassionate lessons of my life at a moment when I was way out of my comfort zone. The day after he and I co-hosted a mostly improvisational show in front of an African American audience, I wrote this blog post. It was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life. ----------------- BACK IN BLACK I have always had an affinity for African American people. Their music always moved me more than the bland songs sung by white performers. Their distinctly different clothing choices made me want to be colorful like them instead of rigid and uniform
Rick Pitino on geezer ball, derision from his players, next year’s Cards, Derby winnings, and sleeping in church
Rick Pitino played in his 55+ basketball league and lived to talk about it...live from a hot tub where he was nursing his wounds. (full transcript at bottom of page) After reflecting on his tournament play, Pitino talked about his next UofL team, his kids grabbing all of his Derby winnings, and why he was sleeping (or deeply praying) at Mass. American hero Joey Jaws Chestnut seeks 10th Nathan’s Mustard Belt at 4th of July gorging fest
America is the fattest country in the world so a guy like Joey "Jaws" Chestnut is iconic. Chestnut has won the Nathan's World Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest a record 9 times. Chestnut's record is 73 hot dogs and buns consumed in 10 minutes. In our radio chat today, we discussed his Nathan's competition prep, the aftermath, celebrity pampering, other food contests, and the unrelenting sting from overeating ice cream. Louisville is hosting a Nathan's qualifying round this Saturday at Thunder Over Louisville. The top male and female finisher earn the right to compete against Joey Jaws and all the other stars of competitive eating in Brooklyn. DETAILS HERE
Gov Matt Bevin on pension meltdowns, tax overhaul, SNL, and Kentucky’s “pathetic” media
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is not shy in his radio appearances. I've had conversations with Mr. Bevin since his 2013 senate primary challenge to incumbent Sen. Mitch McConnell. Gov. Bevin and I usually go long form on a variety of issues. This time we talked about Saturday Night Live's skewering of Kentuckians, expected tax overhaul plans, alleged political corruption by both parties, and secrecy surrounding the governor's new Anchorage home. A few members of the media took offense to a comment Bevin made about Courier-Journal Frankfort bureau chief Tom Loftus. I spoke with Loftus about it the next morning and he simply laughed off the governor's dig. .@TomLoftus_CJ was covering Kentucky before @GovMattBevin knew where Frankfort was on a
McConnell confirms his intention to use the nuclear option to confirm SCOTUS nominee Neil Grouch
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirms that he is prepared to use the so-called nuclear option, changing traditional rules of the Senate to allow for a simple majority vote to confirm U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch. In a WHAS radio interview with me, McConnell noted that the longstanding tradition of requiring a supermajority of 60 aye votes was overrun in 2013 by then-majority leader Sen. Harry Reid. Democrats point out that Reid's use of the nuclear option was to advance lower court appointments, not Supreme Court nominees. Here is the entire WHAS interview, which also covers whether superpowers should intervene following Syrian chemical attacks, if GOP in-fighting will wither 2018 election hopes, health care upgrades, tax reform, and
Rick Pitino: “It’s not the NCAA that we answer to in life…We all answer to the God we believe in”
University of Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino and I chatted this morning about his upcoming "day in court" at NCAA headquarters, this weekend's Final Four, and next year's UofL basketball team. Rick Pitino on NCAA inquiry: "What I've done the last 30 years in terms of being compliant to all NCAA rules, no deals with agents" 1/3— Terry Meiners (@terrymeiners) March 31, 2017 2/3 Pitino: "AAU coaches, nothing like that. I feel very comfortable answering their response &I look forward to that so-called day in court— Terry Meiners (@terrymeiners) March 31, 2017 3/3 Pitino: "we all answer to the God that we believe in and I've got no problem answering in this situation..."— Terry Meiners (@terrymeiners) March 31, 2017
Tin foil, good buddy
From: John Fretter Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2017 12:45 PM To: MEINERS, TERRY A Subject: Easily impugned Good afternoon Terry, I listened to a few minutes of your show yesterday just in time to hear you slander Alex Jones. I find it fascinating that you freely admitted that you really didn't know who he was, what he believes, and even where his show aired. ("web show are something"). I believe you referred to him as a "conspiracy theorists" and something along the lines of a "kook". Your sidekick whoever that was said that Alex Jones screams a lot. Have you ever heard of Chris Matthews? He tends to get a bit loud and even seems to slobber. Despite that, I was offended at your assessment
