Here's Air France flying a Boeing 777 into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on a visual approach to runway 24 Right. Terrific graphics and excellent sound allows the viewer to observe the pilots at work running through the landing checklist while acknowledging vectors in one of America's busiest airports. If you can forgive the shaky camera work, this is a great look at a crew taking another Boeing 777 into Chicago O'Hare Airport (ORD) runway 10 Center. The person holding the camera is doing the best they can but it should be noted that the passengers aren't shaking this vigorously on approach and after landing. This is an excellent pre-flight operations peek aboard an Aer Lingus Airbus 330 as the crew preps

PILOTS AND DECISIONS: why not turn back? why not ask for instrument guidance safely to a nearby airport? Here’s the radar track of Kobe Bryant’s helicopter.
The first question to ask about the helicopter flight that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven other souls is why on earth there was only one pilot on board? Surely Kobe has an insurance policy that REQUIRES him to employ two pilots for safety purposes. Fog is usually not a problem by simply adding a few hundred additional feet of altitude. Why didn't pilot Ara Zobayan ask for a higher clearance if fog was the issue? That aircraft has a service ceiling well beyond the level of fog. A pilot's primary motto is "altitude is my friend." Got trouble? Contact air traffic control or announce on a unicom frequency (a universal frequency for all unmonitored aircraft)
It’s the money tree we need to keep an eye on
Airplanes are landing at Bowman Field. Trees continue growing around Bowman Field. Some neighborhood residents have formed Plea for Trees, a group dedicated to saving the trees. An enormous amount of tax money is about to be spent for another assessment to assess the previous assessment that assessed yet another previous assessment. Let's inject some sanity into this situation. Why must we spend nearly $500,000 on a study of 150 trees (or clusters)? That's $3,303.33 per tree...for a study. Let's spend that money trimming tree tops that are in the standard glide paths of the runways, which are defined on pilot approach/departure charts. We all love trees. We all make choices when we buy houses at or near airports. Trees grow.
