"The flyover states have become the passed over states." Liberal condescension for red state America never seems to wane. Comedian pundit Bill Maher determines that Democrats have all of the brains, beauty, and wealth in the country and red state people are simply envious. Maher clearly hasn't checked the blue state needs for government programs to bolster infrastructure, health care, drug rehabilitation, police, prisons, and welfare in America's dilapidated big cities. That's quite a different story than Maher tells in the video above. Residents in big cities have no less than eight locks and security cameras on their tiny, overpriced homes for one major reason. With its massive package sorting hub facilities around Louisville International Airport, United Parcel Service is one of Kentucky's largest employers. About 11,000 people work for UPS in the Louisville area. With the burgeoning growth of Amazon's Prime Air fleet, much of which is directed toward Northern Kentucky's Cincinnati airport, the next few years could could create incredible headwinds for UPS, Fed Ex, and other package delivery companies. Amazon would love to cut its operating costs by flying their own packages instead of paying UPS and others to do it for them. UPDATE -- Mark Sheehan on the expansive growth of drone use strategies and potential (December 2018) CBS News magazine 60 Minutes interviewed Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos who projects that drones will deliver packages within 5 years. The Louisville area has two Amazon fulfillment centers and the primary UPS air freight hub, which would be threatened by Bezos' vision. Stay tuned.
