Those are some good dudes. Joe Donovan, Doug McElvein, Van Vance, Wayne Perkey, Jack Fox, Milton Metz, and I stood for that photo in 1993. They're all outstanding broadcasters who helped maintain WHAS Radio's legendary status as one of America's giants in news/talk. Joe and Milton are gone. Doug McElvein was on the radio last month and can be found in an earlier post on this website. The other fellows will all sit for interviews in the near future. I've been speaking with one prominent WHAS voice every week leading up to the station's 100th birthday in July 2022. I LOVED catching up with my friend @terrymeiners on @840WHAS radio today. We talked about family, @JudeRedfield, #Covid_19 my life in tv news and my

A party in Lexington 35 years in the making โฆ #ForTheTeam Chapter Five ๐ผ๐ pic.twitter.com/c3h3ZQ0Nd1 โ Kentucky Football (@UKFootball) October 7, 2021 KENTUCKY FOOTBALL IS A THING! The Kentucky Wildcats jumped from #31 to #16 in the Associated Press poll after a hard fought victory over #10 Florida. It was Kentucky's first home victory over the Gators since 1986. Street party couch burnings went on until the wee hours. UK is now 5-0 and welcoming a struggling LSU squad into Kroger Field on Saturday night. In a rare departure from oddsmaker behavior, Kentucky is a 2 point favorite. Finish the play. Finish the game. Finish what you start. Do that, and anything can happen. pic.twitter.com/XVBvTWTo9F โ LSU Football (@LSUfootball) October 7, 2021 THE BEASMAN florida goes down LATER GATOR! LATER GATOR! LATER
With Charles Booker jumping to the big leagues, who’ll be the next mayor of Louisville?
Former state representative Charles Booker built an energized following during 2020's racial reckoning protests by telling his story of struggles and hopes. But once he steps outside Jefferson County, people wonder if he is just howling to a smattering of lefties. So why is he running for the U.S. Senate instead of sliding directly into the Louisville mayor's office? Hard to tell. Mr. Booker's plan is to continue growing his base "from the hood to the holler" to unseat Senator Rand Paul. Pundits claim a Booker victory is a real long shot in Trump loving Kentucky, but Charles claims "we proved them wrong." No one has been proved wrong yet. A Booker victory would become that proof but can it actually happen? The voters will
PGA star Justin Thomas raises hometown money for children’s charities
JT is home to host his Justin Thomas Junior Championship at Harmony Landing. โณ๏ธ Justinโs foundation expects to raise over $100,000 for childrenโs charities. That would push the cumulative total beyond $350,000 in just a few years of this tournament. Lots of immensely talented juniors are playing Wednesday through Friday. Spectators welcome. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ๐๐ฝ๐๐พโโ๏ธ #Kygolf #juniorgolf #Kentucky If the city of Louisville had a Mt. Rushmore of sports, Justin's status would certainly earn him a spot. How much do y’all radio deejays make? Ain’t y’all loaded?
"You deejays make all that BIG MONEY!" Well...some do, some don't. It's all about the deal that's struck with management. Deejays who are connected to revenue streams typically pull better salaries. I've done at least 7 critical negotiations with management at WLRS-FM, then WQMF-FM, and then a series of revolving deals with the various managers of WHAS Radio and television over the past 45 years. WHAS Radio news anchors recently discovered a treasure trove of station documents, including this 1943 contract for staff announcer and "specialty man" services. There were also rates for singers, musicians, actors, and sound effects specialists. Here is a 1976 proposal from WKQQ/Lexington program director Dick Hungate to his manager requesting to unplug the automation and switch to live
Green Bay Packers quarterback still acting as though he’s won 6 rings instead of one ๐ค
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appeared on late night Sportscenter with his longtime friend Kenny Mayne. It was mostly a chance for Rodgers to celebrate Mayne's quirky legacy on his final ESPN broadcast. The NFL MVP gushed over Mayne's clever swerves from traditional sports broadcasting to add a dimension of snark and cynicism to ESPN's signature show. Rodgers fielded tough questions about his sartorial choices at the Kentucky Derby and his upcoming wedding. Oh, and that little matter about whether Aaron Rodgers will show up for work in Green Bay finally popped up at 7:23 into the interview. Aaron is keeping it coy but it sounds as though he wants to play elsewhere. The problems for Rodgers are (1) he has a

impartial journalism is possible
Impartial journalism is much harder to find among today's budget choked newsrooms filled with activism, but it is possible. There have to be competent editors filtering submitted reporting to cleanse it of bias. Multiple sets of eyes are able to flush out even subtle bias and inadequate clarity. JOURNALISTS: Resolve now that whatever the verdict, you journalists will limit the subjective adjectives you use to report it. When a verdict comes in, it is not your role to call it shocking, stunning, vindicating, just or unjust. Report it. Stick to the facts.— Al Tompkins (@atompkins) April 20, 2021 There are at least three sides to every story. A complete report includes as much of these verified dimensions as can be
Will drivers have to pay-per-mile for using roads? Sen. Mitch McConnell on infrastructure, the booming Biden economy, MLB shiftiness, the Manchin trump card, more
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell joined me on WHAS Radio for a wide ranging conversation about the Biden Administration's stimulus packages, infrastructure proposals, COVID vaccine access, moving the MLB all-star game over woke politics, and the senate seesaw of having moderate Democrat Joe Manchin voting often with Republicans. .@terrymeiners says @LeaderMcConnell might consider himself still majority leader given how much @Sen_JoeManchin sides with the #GOP.
