Russ Brown writes in Kentucky Today that University of Louisville baseball coach Dan McDonnell had a come-to-Jesus meeting with his pitcher Luke Smith following Friday’s profane outburst. The nationally televised college world series game showed Smith repeatedly shouting F-You and “sit in your f-ing dugout” taunts.

Even if Vanderbilt players were throwing verbal jabs at him, all the TV audience saw was profanity from the Louisville guy. It was a kick in the head for an already beleaguered UofL image following several years of scandals.

Once again…to all the grownups who applaud Luke Smith’s ridiculous behavior: If what he did was fierce, laudable, and showed intense competitive emotional range, why is everyone apologizing?

Because the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization wouldn’t carry quite the same prestige if they became known as the Fellowship of Cursing Asshats.
